Cost: $2,100

Course Description: This is an intermediate level course that covers all of the systems related to electric vehicles. Emphasis will be placed on converting gas vehicles to electric propulsion. The course will cover the basics of installation of an electric motor system; CAN network programing, system monitoring and diagnostics. High voltage safety and electric vehicle specialty service tools will also be covered. Class time is split between systems theory and creative hands on laboratory activities. This fast paced course is designed for technicians that want to advance their career or individuals that desire to convert gas vehicles to electric.

Your Instructors: The class will be led by Michael Bream owner of the famous EV West Conversion Shop. There will be several guest speakers teaching in their areas of expertise. This will give you a broad perspective on all electric vehicle systems.

Course Content: Introduction to Electric Vehicle Components Safety and Equipment Quick Start to Basic Motor Operation Best Practices for EV Wiring Connections Contactor Box for High Voltage Battery Types and Power/Energy Calculations Battery Box Fundamentals and Thermal Management Battery Onboard Charger Battery Management System Grid Charging EVSE J1772 Electric Motors and Gearbox Inverter Controller DC DC Converter Instrumentation and CAN Communication Accessories and Auxiliary Systems

Closed-toe shoes are required.

Participants will go on a tour of EV West and will have the opportunity to do several exciting hands-on conversion-related activities.
